Yara confirmed the construction of a production unit of foliar fertilizers and the micronutrients YaraVita in Sumaré in the Brazilian state of São Paulo in order to consolidate its leadership in the Brazilian market of fertilizers. The investment announcement occurred last week in the city of Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul. This will be the first unit of the company aimed to a product line outside of Europe. Currently, the line of products sold in Brazil, used to recover solid fertilizers, seed treatment and foliar application, comes from the units of Yara in Pocklington, England.

The new factory of YaraVita in Sumaré will adopt the same manufacturing technologies and will follow the high international standards of the company, which will be according to the strictest legislation in the world, the Australian, bringing a superior quality to the products and a greater control of heavy metals. These standards establish an insightful selection of raw materials that, associated with the formulation of Yara will guarantee to the farmer a high agronomic performance with environmental sustainability.

The investment for the construction of the new unit will be R$ 41.4 million and the inauguration is forecast for the second semester of 2017. The unit will be responsible for the manufacturing of nearly 70% of all of the volume of YaraVita sold by the company in Brazil. “The investment for the construction of this unit reaffirms our commitment to the country and the Brazilian farmers. It is the first time that Yara builds a unit for the production of YaraVita outside of English, which strengthens the importance of Brazil for the company. In the last three years, we have invested over US$ 1 billion in Brazil, including improvements, new enterprises and acquisitions in the sector,” said Lair Hanzen, president of Yara Brasil.

The choice for Sumaré is strategic because Yara has in the municipality the most modern mixture unit in the country, inaugurated in November of 2014. The planning, therefore, according to the commercial director of the company, Cleiton Vargas, is to use the operation and the logistics of the unit – which has a privileged location that eases the flow of final products and internment of raw material through the port of Santos.

"The presence of Sumaré will allow us to integrate the railways and highways to be more efficient. Therefore, we will deliver the products faster to the producer. Besides, we will have the advantage of relying on the existing structures of the unit, like the case of the laboratory for chemical analysis,” says Vargas.

The new factory will be able to produce all the liquid products of the YaraVita, the concentrated suspensions as well as the solutions, attending perfectly to the necessities of the Brazilian farmers. The main product that will be manufactured in the unit at the first moment are YaraVita Coating, YaraVita Glytrel, YaraVita Thiotrac and YaraVita Bortrac.
