Syngenta Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of Elatus™ (benzovindiflupyr + azoxystrobin), a new fungicide for control of foliar diseases across all major Canadian pulse crops, including lentils chickpeas and field peas.

Elatus fungicide is a co-pack combination of two active ingredients – Solatenol (benzovindiflupyr), a newly registered Group 7 succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) foliar fungicide, and azoxystrobin (Group 11).

Solatenol offers excellent activity in several crops, and Elatus is one of three upcoming fungicide products from Syngenta that will feature this groundbreaking active ingredient in Canada.

“Shorter crop rotations have led to increased disease pressure in pulses,” explains Eric Phillips, Product Lead, Fungicides and Insecticides, with Syngenta Canada. “As a result, it’s critical for growers to maintain yield and quality through effective control of foliar diseases.”

Applied preventatively, Elatus targets major yield-robbing diseases, including Anthracnose, Ascochyta blight and Mycosphaerella blight, delivering effective disease control in support of crop quality and yield potential.

Through dual modes of action, Elatus delivers long-lasting disease protection in two ways:

•  First, Elatus sticks to the plant’s waxy layer on the cuticle of the leaf, penetrating slowly over time, delivering residual activity.
•  Secondly, Elatus is taken up through the xylem – the water conducting vessels within the plant – and then moves upward and outward to protect the plant as it grows.

With both active ingredients having activity on target diseases, Elatus is also part of an effective resistance management strategy.

Elatus will be packaged at one convenient use rate across lentils, chickpeas and field peas, with one case of Elatus treating up to 40 acres.

In peas, lentils and chickpeas, Elatus must be applied before disease is established and no later than the onset of flowering. If required, a second application can be made 10-14 days after the first application when disease development is evident, or when agronomic or weather conditions are favourable to disease development.

“Growers using Elatus on their pulse crops can expect high activity on important diseases and reliable performance they can depend on to safeguard their yield and quality potential,” says Phillips.

Elatus will be available for purchase in Spring 2016.
