Brazil MAPA prioritizes 8 plagues for agrochemical registration‏

The Department of Plant Health of Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (MAPA) defined through an ordinance published on August 24 a list of 8 plagues that represent greater phytosanitary risk for the main agricultural crops in Brazil.

The ordinance defines that these 8 plagues will have priority in the procedures of registration for products and control technologies. "These plagues are considered of greater phytosanitary risk and economic importance, needing prioritization for the product registration for control," says the publication.

The companies that have already filed the requirements of registration and meet the demands of this ordinance should introduce within five working days against  the publication date, a list containing the number of procedures of registration, commercial brand, active ingredients and the indication of the target to be controlled.

The plagues highlighted by MAPA are the following:

- Soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizie) - Soybeans
- Cottony Rot - (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) - Soybeans, kidney beans and cotton
- Bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera)
- Sweet potato whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) - Kidney beans, tomato, mellon and soybeans.
- Nematodes (Meloidogyne javanica, Meloidogyne incognita, Heterodera glycine and Pratylenchus brachyurus) - Soybean
- Coffee Borer Beetle (Hypothenemus hampei)
- Resistant weeds (Conyza bonariensis and Digitaria insularis) - Soybeans, Cotton and Kidney beans
- Boll weevil ( Antonomus grandis) - Cotton
