AgroPages-World Potato Congress held in Beijing-Agricultural news

From the 28th to the 30th July, the World Potato Congress was held in Beijing, participated by a large number of multinationals including Syngenta, Bayer and DuPont, where potato solutions were released.

During the conference, the International Potato Center Asia Pacific Center was unveiled, which is the first international agriculture research institute established in China. Chinese government will consolidate international resources to promote the development of the center with advanced equipment and intelligent resources, and contribute to the world food security and poverty reduction.

Early this year, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture initiated the “potato to be staple food” program in a purpose to promote potato into the 4th staple food following wheat, corn and rice. At present time China’s potato planting area ranks on the top list, but the level of pesticide application falls behind, offering great market opportunities for potato-oriented pesticide.
