“New Normal” to improve China pesticides industry‏

"The so-called New Normal of the Chinese economy represents a change, a new phase of control and sustainability. If the economy was being pushed by external investments before, now the aim is for development through innovation". The statement was done by Ms. Ma Chunyan, Vice-Chairman of CCPIT Sub-Council of Chemical Industry, China, during the opening of the 8th Brasil AgrochemShow – 2015.

According to Ms. Ma, "in the near future, China will become more present as a proponent of innovations. This is the guidance of the Chinese government, which projects a sustainable economic growth. In the first semester of this year, the economic expansion was 7%. In this context, the agrochemical industry is part of the process with 2,248 companies".

"We moved from an importing country in the year of 1994 to an eminently exporting country 20 years later. In 2014, for instance, 3,744 tons [of agrochemicals] were produced - an increase of 1.4% over 2013," highlighted Ms. Ma.

As a trend, Ms. Ma points out that there will be more investment abroad, including the opening of new offices of Chinese companies in the world. Even though there will not occur in significant numbers, it will start soon.

According to her, "a re-adaptation and reorganization of companies is taking place. We should pay attention in the merging happening around the world". She points out that the production cost has grown in the last five years.

Ms. Ma also highlighted the expansion of biopesticides. According to her, the numbers still are very distant from the conventional chemical industry, but have grown above the average [of the conventional chemical industry]. Last year, for instance, the growth was 24%.

"The competition has increased and the products are more qualified. Even though the Chinese government controls the opening of companies in the sector, the center of the world's agrochemical industry will be in China for a very long time," she concluded.
