The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed to approve Andermatt Biocontrol AG’s Grandex Biological Insecticide based on the active ingredient, Cydia pomonella Granulosis Virus strain V22 (CpGV-V22) to control codling moth and oriental fruit moth in pome and stone fruits.

CpGV-V22 is a natural entomopathogen belonging to the family Baculoviridae. Ingestion of CpGV leads to dissolution of granulin in the alkaline midgut and release of the virions that initiate infection in midgut epithelial cells of the larvae of the target moth.

Public comment will open from 14 July 2015 to 11 August 2015 on whether the application for registration of the product should be granted.
