The sales of the Brazilian industry of agrochemicals fell 15% in the fisrt semester comparing to the same period of last year. The data was released by the executive-director of the country's National Association of Plant Protection (Andef), Eduardo Daher.

"If earlier in the year we estimated a growth of 2% to 3%, now the perspective is that the growth will be flat or we will have a small (sales) reduction considering the revenue in Reals. This does not necessarily imply that we will have smaller sales until the end of the crop. There will be a concentration of deliveries in a very short period of time, which will bring logistical problems," says the director.

Daher justifies the retraction because of a undercapitalization of farmers, higher interest rates and the valuing Dollar against the Real. He forecasts a revenue of US$ 11.4 billion for the 2015/2016 crop. This would represent a fall of 7% comparing to the 2014/2015 crop (where there were US$ 12.2 billion).

Even so, the director says that producers "will seek the resources, even to test if in fact it will be available at the bank. Perhaps the demand for loans will be yet bigger". "We are returning to a previous scenario, where tradings and banks responded for two thirds of the crop's cost", concludes Daher.
