The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is proposing to confirm the current registration of fluazinam products (include technical and formulation products) from ISK Biosciences for sale and use in Canada after the special review.

Fluazinam is a fungicide, and was granted full registration in Canada in 2008. Fluazinam is currently registered for use in Canada for the control of late blight and white mould on potatoes and white mould on soybeans. It is also registered for the control of various fungal diseases in cruciferous vegetables, bushberries, edible-podded legume vegetables (except pea), dry shelled beans, ginseng, carrots, apples, cantaloupe, field peppers and bulb onions. Fluazinam is applied using ground spray, airblast or hand-held equipment.

The items of the special review include persistence and potential carryover in soil, potential for long-range atmospheric transport, potential bioaccumulation, risk to earthworms and potential developmental and reproductive effects related to human health. After evaluation of available relevant scientific information related to the aspects of concern, the PMRA concluded that fluazinam does not pose unacceptable risks to human health and the environment, taking into account current conditions of use.

This consultation is open for public comment from 30 June 2015, to 14 August 2015.
