DuPont Pioneer released a statement following the European Commission's approval of the Plenish high oleic soybean single trait for import, food, feed use and processing.

"The European Commission’s approval of the Plenish high oleic trait marks an important step forward in the full commercialization of Plenish high oleic soybeans. With single trait approvals for Plenish high oleic soybeans secured in all of the U.S. soybean export markets, DuPont Pioneer is advancing a value-add technology for growers, end-users and consumers."

Plenish high oleic soybeans is a Pioneer brand soybean with a healthier oil profile and increased oil stability. Plenish high oleic soybean oil has 0g trans fat, less saturated fat and the highest amount of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat available in soy.

Although the European Commission adopted a new authorization for import of the soybeans, new procedures expected to be in place by the European Union suggest that individual countries will have the right of acceptance or refusal to allow import.

The April 24 news release by the European Commission starts out: “The Commission today adopted 10 new authorisations for Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) for food/feed use, 7 renewals of existing authorisations and also the authorisation for the importation of 2 GMO cut flowers (not for food or feed). These GMOs had gone through a full authorisation procedure, including a favourable scientific assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The authorisation decisions do not cover cultivation.”
