"With the current time taken to register new products, generic or biological, we are behind all countries that use the technology". This is the assessment about Brazil from Almir Dalpasquale, president of the Brazilian Association of Soybean Growers, who also criticizes the lagging of local authorities in the crop protection sector.

"Today, Brazil has to work with what it has, but we know that our neighbors and competitors in the international market have not only the best, but cheaper products on hand. A caterpillar insecticide costs US$ 25/ha in Australia, while here it is not sold for less than US$ 75/ha. Therefore, besides all of this we yet have the Custo Brasil (Brazil Cost) against us," explained by him. Custo Brasil is used by economists and entrepreneurs to refer to high taxes and costs in the country combined with a poor infrastructure and services.

Dalpasqualide highlighted the advances of Pesticide Residue Analysis in Food Program introduced by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). On the other hand, he points out that the negative legislation and the system for registration of fruits and vegetables lead producers to work illegally.

"So because of that, farmers are forced to use products within the dose limits and techniques established for the same pest and disease, but not aimed to other crops, often from the same botanical family" he concluded.
