Yara inaugurates most modern mixing unit in Brazil‏

Yara inaugurated the most modern fertilizers mixing unit in Sumaré, São Paulo, Brazil. With investments of R$ 115 million and a mixing capacity of 750,000 tons, the project will serve, mostly, the state of São Paulo, and partly to Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná. According to the company, the new unit also stands out for its operational excellence, automation process, high product quality and safety.

According to Lair Hanzen, president of Yara Brasil, the opening of the unit consolidates the strategy of raising the standard of quality and operational efficiency of the fertilizer market in Brazil, as well as reinforces the company's commitment to the development of Brazilian agriculture.

With a total area of 80,000 meters and a manufacturing area of 34,000 square meters, the plant will have 90 employees and will be specialized on nitrogen products and special lines of Yara fertilizers, including YaraMila, YaraBela, YaraLiva, and YaraVita, the most efficient sources of NPK and micro-nutrients, optimized for better results and a less environmental impact. Other advantage of Sumaré is the dry weather, which helps the storage and brings a better product to farmers.

"The Mixer Unit is close to major highways connecting the region to the main farm and the port of Santos poles, as well as being integrated with the railroad, which facilitates faster delivery to the producer. The proximity of the Port of Santos also benefits the farmer because it facilitates the flow of products and the arrival of raw materials" said Hanzen.

The president of Yara highlights that São Paulo is an important market for fertilizers and has some peculiarities. "Besides being one of the main fertilizers market in the country with over four million tons sold in 2013, according to the National Association of Fertilizers Distribution. São Paulo shows one of the smaller seasonality when delivering fertilizers to farmers, so that the operation becomes more predictable. The state also has the best logistics to receive raw products and to distribute products all over Brazil because of an extensive roadrail loop," explained by Hanzen.

Besides Sumaré, Yara has three other units. The company makes mixtures of fertilizers in Cubatão, while in Jaú and Limeira, liquid fertilizers are produced.
