Japan agchem sales up 3% in FY 2014

Agrochemical sales in Japan rose by 2.6% to 346,060 million yen ($2,976.1 million at the current rate) in the FY 2014 ended Sep 30th 2014, according to the Japan Crop Protection Association (JCPA). The sales volume dipped by 0.5% (about 1,000 tons) at 195,656 tons.
Sales of the largest category, herbicides, were up by 4.6% to 119,318 million yen ($1026.1 million), while sales volume increased 1.4% to 61,523 tons. Insecticides sales rose by 1.9% to 102,673 million yen ($883 million) but volume dropped by 3.1% to 68,779 tons. Fungicides posted a 2.4% increase at 75,973 million yen ($653.4 million), and volume also rose by 1.9% to 39,221 tons. Insecticides/fungicides decreased by 0.1% to 38,176 million yen ($328.3 million), while volume dropped by 1.8% to 20,911 tons.
The sales for the paddy-field application category registered a 2.7% rise to 127,485 million yen ($1,096.4 million) with volume decreasing by 2.2% to 68,525 tons. Sales for vegetable/upland farms application saw a 2.8% increase to 121,027 million yen ($1,040.8 million) with volume increasing 0.6% at 81,058 tons. Sales for fruit trees application post a 0.4% growth at 50,427 million yen ($433.7 million), and volume was down by 0.7% to 19,464 tons. The “others uses” section, which including non-agricultural, forest, garden, golf uses, recorded the increase both in sales and volume, and the sales boosted by 6.0% to 37,200 million ($319.9 million) yen with volume up by 1.2% to 21,385 tons. In addition, it's worth mentioning that the sales of rodenticides in value and volume both surged 200% to 42 million yen ($ 0.36 million) and 27 tons in FY 2014, respectively.
