BASF Corporation recently joined members of the Detroit International Wildlife Refuge and Alliance to offer a $10,000 check to support the refuge’s work.

According to BASF, they have been a strong supporter of the refuge since its creation in 2001.

"BASF has been one of the important early leaders of cooperative conservation that enhances close-to-home outdoor recreation and improves quality life for nearly seven million people living within a 45-minute drive," said John Hartig, refuge manager. "BASF is truly an international leader in pollution prevention, environmental stewardship and sustainable development."

Since 2001, BASF has contributed to the environmental education shelter and trails, constructed nearly one acre of habitat for several fish and provided much more additional support.

"The International Wildlife Refuge Alliance is honored to have BASF’s support to further assist in delivering our mission to support the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge," said Dick Micka, IWRA Chairman. IWRA, a nonprofit organization, will be using this money to further strengthen partnerships to protect, conserve and manage the Refuge’s wildlife and habitats, and to create exceptional conservation, recreational and educational experiences that will inspire and help develop the next generation of conservationists.
