Dow expands R&D Site in Iowa, USA

Dow AgroSciences held a community open house on Aug. 21, to showcase the expansion of the company’s Iowa Field Research Station in Davenport.

Dow AgroSciences held a community open house on Aug. 21, to showcase the expansion of the company’s Iowa Field Research Station in Davenport. The expansion includes an office building/seed lab, seed dryer area, and two machine storage units. The new facility features approximately six acres of an office/seed lab building, 15 acres of corn silage plots, and approximately 200 acres of corn grain plots.

“The new facility will allow us to sustain our current growth in seed research work and also to keep pace with current and future seed technologies,” said Nate VanOpdorp, Davenport Field Research Station Site Leader, Dow AgroSciences. “We have more than doubled our research efforts in the Davenport, Iowa area over the past six years. Our plans are to continue this growth so that we can meet our goals of releasing market-leading seed products, which will help farmers in the U.S. supply the grain we need to feed the world’s growing population.”

“This facility provides an important piece of our development process for corn and corn silage,” said Daniel R. Kittle, vice president of Research and Development at Dow AgroSciences. “The expansion will increase our capacity to test and develop the state-of-the-art corn solutions needed by growers throughout North America.”

The Davenport site has approximately 10 full-time employees, with more than 50 temporary and seasonal employees during the planting and growing seasons of Iowa and Illinois. This number is expected to grow in the future.
