EU oks sucrose as basic substance

Sucrose is to be approved by EU as a basic substance for plant protection purpose. In April 2013, EU received an application from the Institut Technique de l’ Agriculture Biologique (ITAB) for approval of sucrose as a basic substance. It is not predominantly used for plant protection purposes but nevertheless is useful in plant protection in a product consisting of the substance and water. Consequently, it is to be considered as a basic substance. Sucrose only can be used as basic substance when being an elicitor of the crop's natural defence mechanisms. Sucrose would be the second basic substance applied by ITAB, which received approval for Equisetum arvense.
