China’s six-month agchem trade grows in 2014

According to  data released by the Chinese General Administration of Customs, the pesticide import volume in June increased by 42% to 8 thousand tons, with the import value up by 34.3%, reaching $61.2 million. Meanwhile, pesticide export volumes dropped slightly in June by 0.9% to 104 thousand tons However, the export value increased by 9.8% to $387 million.

For the first six months, pesticide import volumes increased 20.9% to 51,000 tons, as its value grew by 9.5% to $450 million. The export volume rose by 10.5% to 669,000 tons, as its value grew by 20.1% to $2,366 million.

Import specifics

Fungicides are the largest category in June’s pesticide imports, both in volume (3000 tons) and value ($30.1 million). Herbicide imports saw a rapid increase of 59.5% to 2000 tons, however, import values decreased by 15% to $6.6 million. Insecticide imports were reported at 1000 tons, a 53.5% increase, and valued at $ 14.5 million, being an increase of 59.9%.

During the first six months of 2014, fungicide imports increased by 17.2% and 10.8%, in terms of volume and value. The import volume of insecticides was 7000 tons (up 15.5%) and its value was $110 million (up 3.5%). Additionally, herbicide import volumes increased by 21.4% to 17,000 tons, with value increasing by 9.3% to $103.1 million.  

Export specifics

In June, herbicide were the largest category, with a volume of 70,000 tons and value of $228.6 million. The export volume of insecticides declined by 5.5% to 24,000 tons. For fungicides, the volume rose by 19.2% to 7000 tons, and their value grew by 18.7% to $37.1 million.

During the first six months of 2014, the export of herbicides saw double-digit growth, up 12.6% and 23% in terms of volume and value, respectively. Insecticide export volumes reached 123,000 tonnes, while the value was $531.3 million. The export of fungicide, however, remained as the short board, with volume increasing 4% to 38,000 tonnes and value by 8.1% to $210.3 million.
