Argentina's Chamber of Seeds Multipliers (Casem) has claimed for modifications in the bill aimed to update the "Seeds Law 20.247” in the country. The entity says that changes in the current legislation are welcomed, but they want a reform that would attend "the productive chain" and not only the specific aspects.

The president of Casem, Raúl Pagnoni, released an official statement about the introduced bill which changes the rules that regulates the sector for over 40 years. "We want the incorporation of new definitions or concepts that may correct the lack of the law observance by some individuals" and not "having to recur to constant changes". It is necessary to define the terms such as "privilege", "vegetable innovation", and "genetic material".

"We consider the extreme importance of explicitly spelled out in the draft for plant breeding by third parties. The state inspections system should allow transparency in the short term seed market, and gradually eliminate the illegality that exists today. We need to adhere to the criteria referred to in the draft audit and in particular proposed user registration", Casem concluded.
