Bayer CropScience presented fluopyram, a new crop protection solution, to scientists and journalists at its research site in Lyon, France. This active ingredient is one of three substances from Bayer CropScience’s research pipeline that are scheduled to reach market maturity in 2010. The new active ingredient has an annual sales potential of more than EUR 150 million. The first marketing authorization is expected to be granted in the United States in 2010. Registrations of fluopyram-based products in Europe are anticipated as of 2011.

New broad-spectrum fungicide for use in more than 70 crops

The active ingredient was developed to effectively combat various plant diseases caused by fungal pathogens including diseases such as gray mold, powdery mildew, sclerotinia and monilia diseases which can cause considerable financial damage.

It will be available for more than 70 crops, including vines and table grapes, pome and stone fruit, vegetables and field crops. Another advantage for users is that fluopyram shows very high effective at low application rates, both on its own and in combination with other Bayer fungicides.
