Chinese agrochemical company Jiangsu Kuaida (Lier Chemical’s subsidiary) has been approved the registration for its herbicide 97% fluometuron technical from Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA). As per Chinese Pesticide Registration Watch, Jiangsu Kuaida is the first company approved for fluometuron technical in China, and the product is registered for export only.

Fluometuron is a selective systemic herbicide absorbed more readily by plant roots than by the foliage. It translocates acropetally and inhibits Photosynthetic electron transport at the photosystem II receptor site, as well as carotenoid biosynthesis. Fluometuron controls a range of annual broad-leaved weeds and grasses in cotton, corn, sugar cane and several other crops.

Fluometuron was first introduced by Ciba AG (now Syngenta AG) in the early 1970s. It is once the leading urea herbicide and the major product for cotton. Makhteshim acquired the US right of fluometuron in 1999, and the Cotoran business from DuPont in 2007. Monsanto agreed with Makhteshim to license its Roundup Ready Plus trademark for use with Cotoran in 2010. Fluometuron has approved for EU re- registration.

The sales of fluometuron has went over the peak and now sliding down with an annual sales of less than $ 30 million in 2011.
