Cultivated areas in Russia increases by 900 thousand hectares

In the current year Russia plans to sow 78,6 million hectares, increased 900 thousand hectares compared to the areas of 2013. The head of department of plant growing of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Pyotr Chekmarev reported about it at the recent All-Russian agronomical meeting.
 
Summer sowing is planned to carry out for the area of 53 million hectares that on 1,5 million hectares there is more than last year’s indicator.

At the moment about 4,1% of the areas winter are on the verge of death, the head of department of plant growing reported. Usually annually perishes to 1 million hectares. In the current year it is necessary to increase the square of summer sowing at 2 million hectares, Pyotr Chekmarev added.

Winter grain crops on the crop’s eve of 2014 are seeded on the area of 14,7 million hectares, including wheat – on 12 million hectares. Winter oil-bearing crops 440 thousand hectares are seeded.

According to Mr. Chekmarev, by 2015 it is planned to increase sowing winter to 17-18 million hectares. At the same time spring sowing needs to be reduced as to extend very hard. It is necessary to focus on winter crops especially as for this purpose there are all opportunities. To start planning sowing of winter crops on the crop’s eve of 2015 it is possible already now, Pyotr Chekmarev summarized.
