BASF's new Kixor herbicide is "designed to deliver fast, complete burndown, residual control, and crop flexibility," says a company press release. BASF says that Kixor controls more than 90 broadleaf weeds, including glyphosate-tolerant weeds, and can be used on more than 30 crops -- including corn, sorghum, soybeans, and cereals. Kixor will be available in four different formulations to meet a range of needs.

Kixor, which is scheduled for US release in third-quarter 2009, "inhibits a key step in chlorophyll biosynthesis at protoporphyrinogen oxidase, leading to a toxic buildup of protoporphyrinogen and resulting in fast, complete control," says the manufacturer, adding that "the speed with which Kixor controls weeds is remarkable."
