Jocanima Corporation is currently developing the Agriphar product Syllit 400SC (with active ingredient Dodine) for Sigatoka control. The product is expected to be registered this year with the FPA (Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority), a Philippine pesticide regulatory agency. The product will also be tested by all major banana plantations for use in banana against the dreaded Black Sigatoka (Mycosphaerella fijiensis.) This leaf disease is the banana industry’s major disease problem and constitutes to around 70% of the crop protection investment for growing bananas.

The current products being used in the control of Sigatoka has been endangered due to the resistance build-up on the pathogen and thus news products such as Syllit 400SC is deemed necessary. Most of sigatoka operations personnel and researchers of the banana industry are eager to have Syllit 400SC tested, as well as include it in their arsenal against the said leaf disease. The bana?eros are hopeful that the product will be a breakthrough in controlling sigatoka, as well as in managing the resistance to the disease.

Syllit 400SC is expected to be launch in the summer of 2010 and be commercially ready by the onset of the rainy season of that same year.

Syllit 400SC is one of the quality products of Agriphar S.A. of Belgium. It will be manufactured in Belgium and will be commercially sold to all banana growing countries including the Philippines for being the world’s 3rd largest banana producing country.
