Brazilian soybeans harvest is expected to grow 11.2% to 91.05 million tons for 2013/14 season, according to Expedicao Safra’s forecast. The volume is 2 million higher than the volume achieved by the United States.

Brazilian volume for soybeans and corn is expected to reach 125.89 million tons at the end of planting in the 2013/14 summer season with all the favorable conditions, says Expedicao Safra survey. The increment should be 9.15 million tonnes in oilseed ( 11.2%, totaling 91.05 million tons), much larger than the volume of the drop of 1.11 million tons in corn (-3.1% , 34.84 million tons), concluded the technician from the project.

In the final run of sowing, there was an increase in the area of oilseeds, which was already a record and now stands at 29.49 million hectares, an increase of 7%. On the other hand, corn recedes 9.5% to 6.9 million hectares.

Plantation grew in all regions of the country. With this, Brazil is able to overcome the current global leader in oilseed, the United States. The advantage should reach 2 million tons and more than 4 million tonnes for export.

Oilseed’s high

Midwest was the highlight in the expansion of soybean plantations in Brazil, with 43% of the increase of 1.9 million hectares. Mato Grosso added up 550,000 acres and the other states of the region (Mato Grosso do Sul, Goias and the Federal District) other 274 000 ha. The extra 820,000 hectares represented 6.4% expansion in the region.

There was a strong advance in the region covering the states of Maranhao, Tocantins, Piaui and Bahia, the Centre-North. Even with the drought that hit the new frontier in the past year, the productive sector continued its expansion plans, with an increase of 8.8% to 3.13 million hectares.

From the 91.05 million tons of soybeans to be harvested 26.46 million should leave crops in Mato Grosso, the largest national producer. In a year of growth in all regions, the state holds its 28.5% for planting and 29% for oilseed production.

Cereal’s low

On the other hand, corn has a smaller area. Parana and Goias pulled the retreat with the replacement of cereal for oilseed. The decrease in corn areas by producers in Parana reached 19.80%.

According to the Expedicao Safra’s analysis, Giovani Ferreira, Brazilian producers have been following closely the international market prices to determine the directions of national production. "They bet on soybean expansion due to the heated international market by global demand, even with the Americans lowering production," he says.

The resumption of U.S. production in 2013/14 and the harvest in the winter in Brazil made the corn price in the Brazilian market go down. It became more interesting for Brazilian farmers grow soybeans, which also offers greater liquidity.

Probe

The technical and journalistic survey from Expedicao Safra accompanies the potential from planting to harvest grain since 2006/07 and this period verified that the national grain production increased by 70 million tons, from 131.75 million tonnes to up to 200 million tonnes (potential) for this season - an increase of 50% over the past eight years.

The teams from Expedicao Safra resume field activities during the harvest starting in January, covering 14 states, in addition to performing of next year the extraordinary roadmap for Africa.

About Expedicao Safra

Expedicao Safra was developed by Agribusiness Gazeta do Povo, from the Paranaense Communication Group (GRPCom),Safra Expedition is on the road since the 2006/07 cycle. The project consists of a technical and journalistic survey of grain from South America to North America.

Periodic polling occurs in 14 states, plus the producing regions of the United States, Paraguay and Argentina. To broaden the discussion of the market over the past two seasons technicians and journalists extended fieldwork with forays to Europe (Germany, Holland , Belgium and France), China and India . In the 2013/14 season, landed in Africa. The Expedicao also has this issue with technical support and FCStone Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Parana (CREA).
