Dow AgroSciences LLC recently announced the issuance of U.S. Patent Number 8,598,413 for the company’s lead 2,4-D herbicide tolerance event in corn.

The corn event is based on one of Dow AgroSciences’ highly anticipated Enlist™ herbicide-tolerant traits, and provides robust tolerance to broadleaf and grass herbicides, including 2,4-D and the FOP family of herbicides. Pending regulatory approvals, Dow AgroSciences expects to launch Enlist™ corn in 2015 in the U.S.

The Dow AgroSciences’ patent provides proprietary protection for corn plants containing the event, methods of using Enlist corn for controlling glyphosate-resistant weeds, and uses of Dow AgroSciences’ herbicide-tolerance trait in combination with 2,4-D herbicides, FOP herbicides as well as other broad spectrum and selective herbicides. The patent application also covers stacking the event with other traits.

“Our U.S. patent for Enlist corn reinforces our leadership in trait technology as we work to provide farmers with innovative solutions to challenging weed control issues,” said Rolando Meninato, Vice President, Seeds, Traits, and Oils, Dow AgroSciences. “The Enlist Weed Control System will help farmers control both broadleaf weeds and grasses in corn, and will move farming forward at a critical time in modern agriculture.”
