Chinese Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) recently organized a workshop in Beijing for the risk assessment of flubendiamide. At the workshop discussion was held on the consequences to the safety of aquatic ecosystem resulting from application of flubendiamide to rice growth.

Based on the data submitted by companies, it concluded that flubendiamide, upon a preliminary risk assessment causes unacceptable environmental impact to daphnia magna and high-level risk assessment needs to be conducted to determine the impact of flubendiamide to the aquatic ecosystem. Semi-field tests and site monitoring are suggested to be carried out to further assess the risk to the aquatic ecosystem resulting from application of flubendiamide to rice growth.

Flubendiamide is an insecticide developed jointly by Nihon Nohyaku and Bayer, mainly for the use in fruit and vegetable. Flubendiamide has the same mode of action as chlorantraniliprole--long-acting pest control effect over broad-spectrum lepidopteran insects, especially during their nymphal stages.
