Bayer is expanding its Seeds Team with new hires Dr Parmjit Randhawa, Field Agronomist and Renee Moar, Wheat Breeding Technical Officer at Horsham, Australia.

Dr Randhawa will coordinate all trials of breeding populations, early generation material, advanced breeding lines and other wheat material at the Horsham wheat research farm and other locations across Australia.

He will also be responsible for overseeing seed management and movement, data acquisition, analysis, field reports, irrigation system and farm machinery.

Dr Randhawa said, “I was raised on a farm growing wheat and rice and am passionate about wheat. Focusing on wheat research and breeding at Bayer is a great opportunity to contribute to the world’s growing food demand.”

Previously Dr Randhawa worked for nine years in New Zealand’s agricultural research, food and horticulture industries. He was also a Research Scientist at the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Technologies Ltd and Donaghys Industries Ltd in New Zealand.

In her new role as Wheat Breeding Technical Officer, Ms Moar will be responsible for seed management including seed preparation for sowing, shipment and long and short term storage.

Ms Moar said, “I’m very excited to join the wheat breeding team and am looking forward to the bright future ahead with Bayer in the wheat breeding sector.“

Ms Moar previously worked for Viterra and other crop breeding organisations in the Horsham area.

Bayer CropScience is opening its Wheat and Oilseeds Breeding Centre at Longerenong College near Horsham in February 2014.
