The California Department of Pesticide Regulation has registered Zeus herbicide(sulfentrazone) from FMC Agricultural Solutions for use on permanent crops.

Zeus, which contains the active ingredient, sulfentrazone, is absorbed through the roots and interrupts production of a key chlorophyll enzyme to block photosynthesis.

It also is effective against glyphosate- and ALS-resistant weeds, including fleabane, cheeseweed and willowherb.

The broadleaf herbicide controls several weeds, including yellow nutsedge, according to a news release.

Among the crops the expanded registration includes are grapes, oranges, lemons, walnuts and pistachios.

The herbicide already was registered for use on strawberries, transplanted tomatoes, transplanted cabbage, asparagus and mint.
