Monsanto has upgraded its seed processing plant in Bursa, Turkey with an investment cost of USD 30 million.

Part of an overall capacity increase in its European facilities, the expansion in the Turkish unit will increase output to 1,250,000 bags per year, up from 250,000, with 40 percent of the production destined for export markets.

“The increased capacity in Turkey corresponds to seed production from 3,000 hectares of land. The investment also expands employment in our Kemalpasa plant while creating hundreds of seasonal farming jobs in Turkey.”, Monsanto Turkey official, Elie Assaf, said at the ceremony marking the capacity increase in Bursa. The upgrade in the Turkish facility will continue at a later date with the installation of equipment to generate energy from burning corn cobs.

Monsanto has been active in Turkey since 1997, processing seeds harvested from fields in Bergama, Canakkale, Antakya and Kemalpasa in its plant in Kemalpasa, Bursa in northwestern Turkey.
