DuPont Pioneer invested $2 million in facility expansion in Canada

DuPont Pioneer is completing a facility expansion, including the addition of a new greenhouse at its Carman, Manitoba research centre. This $2 million investment will support year-round research on high-yielding, high-performing canola hybrids, as well as expand corn and soybean breeding and testing activities.

"Adding state-of-the-art greenhouse capacity at our canola breeding centres is critical to enabling rapid delivery of products that meet the needs of western Canadian growers," said Dave Charne, research director, DuPont Pioneer. "It is growers' continued trust in our Pioneer ® brand products that makes this growth both possible and necessary."

Canola breeding will be focused on developing high yield and herbicide resistance as well as shatter and Sclerotinia resistance traits and other Pioneer Protector® traits. The Carman centre is a multi-crop research facility which houses canola and early maturity corn and soybean breeding programs.

"We will need to hire several additional research staff in the next few years to execute the program growth these new facilities support," says Charne. "There will be opportunities in corn, canola and soybean research."

Pioneer believes corn and soybeans could become widely established rotational crops in western Canada over the next decade. This investment in research and development will help Pioneer serve growers' evolving needs.
