There were 1,016 tons of pesticides sold in 2012. Compared to the previous year, the total sale of pesticides decreased by 106 tons, i.e. by almost 10%. The figures were revealed by the statistical office of the Republic of Slovenia.

Lately similar decreases occurred in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The sale of fungicides was lower by 97 tons (just over 12%), the sale of herbicides by 7 tons (almost 3%) and the sale of other pesticides by 5 tons (almost 22%). Only the sale of insecticides increased by 3 tons (just over 8%). However, insecticides have the lowest share - just over 4% - in total pesticide sale.

The highest share of sale represented by fungicides

The shares of pesticide sale by groups of pesticides remained in the average proportion of the last 13 years. Of all pesticides sold in 2012 the share of fungicides was almost 69% (700 tons), of herbicides just over 25% (257 tons), of insecticides just over 4% (42 tons) and of other pesticides less than 2% (17 tons).

Methodological note

Figures show the wholesale of pesticides on the domestic market and not the actual consumption in the reference year. Consumption namely depends also on the stocks from previous years, individual purchase abroad, etc. Data on pesticide sale also do not present the actual consumption in agriculture, as pesticides are used also for other purposes (maintenance of roads and railways, golf courses, parks, etc.).
