The president of the agribusiness companies grouped in CAU denounced that despite the lower prices of fertilizers in the international market, the Dominican farms continue to buy those products at high prices.

Manuel Matos said if that situation continues the country’s agriculture will no longer be profitable, because the industry’s work will only benefit the agro-chemical importers.

According to information nitrogen fertilizers prices have fallen to less than half in the international market, but have yet to take effect in the country. “We think that the Fertilizer Distributors Association should meet with the Agriculture Ministry authorities to obtain more transparent prices, since the manner in which the situation is in there’s no way to make the activity profitable.”

He said he regrets the “monopoly” of that business in the country, and requests the Agriculture Ministry’s intervention to lower the prices of agro-chemicals.
