On July 18, 2013, DuPont Pioneer and Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Cindy Hyde-Smith celebrated the opening of a $3.5 million plant genetics research center in Stoneville, Mississippi.

“The Stoneville research center will develop corn hybrids and soybean varieties tailored for growers in the Delta, particularly those on cotton and rice growing soils,” said Terry Colbert, research director for the Delta and Southeast Commercial Units of DuPont Pioneer. “The intensity of heat in this region is ideal for developing locally adapted corn and soybean products for farmers.”

“I am really happy to have a company like DuPont Pioneer located here in the Delta,” said Commissioner Hyde-Smith. “The research performed at this facility will help our producers in the Delta, our neighbors in the South, and farmers globally. We are very proud to partner with DuPont Pioneer as they achieve great things for agriculture.”

Stoneville is the first research facility in the state of Mississippi, opened earlier this spring, and will support DuPont Pioneer’s commitment to increasing agricultural productivity and food security worldwide.

The research focus of the site is corn and soybean breeding and product development for growing conditions in the Delta, including corn and soybean IMPACT™ plots (Intensively Managed Product Advancement Characterization and Training). Research programs around wheat yield, sorghum disease and adaptation also will take place here.
