A biopesticide ‘GITAM Trishul', developed by an Associate Professor of GITAM University, was launched by Chief General Manager of NABARD P. Mohanaiah at a function organised by GITAM University here on Saturday.

Mr. Mohanaiah said many farmers have started realising the side effects of chemical pesticides and are showing interest in eco-friendly varieties. GITAM Trishul would be distributed free of cost for the first year to assess its result on the crop and improve it further, he said.

Talking about NABARD schemes for the farmers, he said the bank was encouraging farmers to take up Srivari cultivation in dry land areas. Mr. Mohanaiah assured that NABARD would consider setting up a research centre at GITAM University.

Dr. Muralimohan explained about his invention and assured that the biopesticide would be delivered to the farmers within 10 days after order was placed for the required quantity. The field tests on paddy, chilli, vegetable and other crops in different parts of the State were successful, he said.

GITAM University Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam appreciated Dr. Murali Mohan for his invention. Principal of GITAM Institute of Technology D. Prasada Rao, HoD of Biotechnology R. Sinha and NABARD Deputy General Manager C. Udaya Bhaskar spoke.
