Brazil appeals release of more pesticides to control Helicoverpaqrcode

The harm caused by Helicoverpa, also known as cotton bollworm, has made CGAA (General Coordination of Agrochemicals and Related) of the Department of Agriculture to allow the emergency use of five types of pesticides.

However, these 5 substances, VPN-HzSNPV Virus, Bacillus thuringiensis, Chlorantraniliprole, Clorfenapyr and Indoxacarb are still waiting for import authorization, meanwhile only Emamectin Benzoate already has got the import authorization, which has still been forbidden by ANVISA and IBAMA.

Tulio Teixeira Oliveira, the CEO of AENDA (Brazilian Association of Generics Pesticides) recently sent a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Andrade, requested the import authorization to be given equally to the five pesticides, which have been allowed in Brazil to control the worm.

In the letter, the CEO also questioned about the fact that the registration delay of Emamectin Benzoate which has been denied by ANVISA (Sanitation National Agency) since 2007 because it was consider toxic to the neurological system.

IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) is against the emergency registrations of the products.

Pesticides allowed

Baculovirus, which active ingredient is the VPN-HzSNPV virus, is a biological pesticide recommended to soy and cotton cultures. The application is known, mixing a pre-mixture with some water, it is presented as a suspension.
 
Another biological pesticide known for decades in Brazil, such as Bacillus thuringiensis, has a terrestrial and aerial recommendation using between 500-750 grams per ha. The high volume dose is 200 liters per ha, and the low volume is a minimum of 40 liter per ha. It is distributed by four companies in Brazil: Bio Controle, Vectorcontrol, Sumitomo and Milenia.
 
The product Chlorantraniliprole is a chemical pesticide presented as a concentrated and granulates suspension, dispersible for cotton and soy bean use. It can be applied terrestrial, center pivot or aerial. The dose for cotton is 150ml/ha and for soy bean is 50ml/ha. This product is not commercialized by Syngenta anymore.
 
Indoxacarb is a chemical pesticide, concentrated suspension, dispersible granulate to use in cotton and soy. In aerial application with bar and micronair the application volume should be 40 liter of juice per ha, the recommendation for cotton is 400ml/ha. The commercial names are Avaunt 150 and Rumo WG from Dupont.
 
Clorfenapyr is also a concentrated suspension pesticide, it is indicated to control the worm in cotton and soy bean fields. It is applied terrestrial using trailed pulverizer, the dose for cotton is 1,5 liter per ha. This is a Basf molecule and it is commercialized as Pirte and Sunfire.
